Human Nature (2001, drama and farce)

Being John Malkovich screenwriter Charlie Kaufman goes ape again. His Human Nature follows the strange triangular relationship between an obsessive scientist (Tim Robbins), a female naturalist (Patricia Arquette), and the so-called "ape man" (Rhys Ifans) they discover, who was born and raised in the wild. There are some real chimps in the movie, plus several charming mice who, as a result of an experiment, are able to sit at a formal dining room table and expertly handle their dishes and cutlery. There's also a bunny, a squirrel, a deer, a coyote, and an opossum in the movie.
