Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion (1965, adventure and comedy)

He may be the King of Beasts, but he couldn't quite bring himself to be beastly. That's the idea behind this story of a gentle-natured, cross-eyed African lion who is taken in by a veterinarian and his daughter. Originally named Freddie, the real Clarence was so gentle his trainer called him "The Shirley Temple of Lions"; he wouldn't even snarl on cue, so he had to be doubled by a fiercer creature called Leo. Clarence later went on to star in the Daktari TV series.
