Babe (1995, drama and fantasy)

When Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell) wins a runty Yorkshire boar at the local fair, he has no idea that the little porker has hidden talents. Babe the Gallant Pig (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh) is a piglet throughout most of the movie, growing up and trying to fit in with the assortment of animals on Hoggett's farm. A wise and kindly sheep dog called Fly (voiced by Miriam Margolyes) takes Babe under her maternal wing and helps him discover that he has natural herding instincts. The little pig brings home the bacon when he's entered in the biggest sheep-herding competition in the county. Live animals take center stage, with a few animatronic models used for strategic moments. A sequel, Babe: Pig in the City, followed in 1998 (PITC is fully reviewed in the book). Based on the novel Sheep Pig by Dick King-Smith.
