Anastasia (1997, animated and suspense)

This fanciful cartoon plays fast and loose with the facts of the case involving Anastasia, the daughter of the last Russian czar. The real royal girl was brutally murdered in hail of gunfire by revolutionaries, but that's not very Disney. So in this version Anastasia (voiced by Kirsten Dunst as a child, and Meg Ryan as a young woman) escapes with her life and winds up safe and anonymous in an orphanage. Ten years later she goes out into the world with her puppy Pooka, where she encounters the mean old "Mad Monk" Rasputin (voiced by Christopher Lloyd) and his evil familiar, a talking white bat called Bartok (voiced by Hank Azaria).
