12 Monkeys (1995, mystery and science fiction)

The future is history when in 2035 a convict (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to stop a virulent virus from spreading. He gets derailed and finds himself trapped in the 1990s when he is hospitalized in an insane asylum. There he meets a fellow inmate (Brad Pitt) who is a militant animal rights activist, bent on liberating not only all the animals in city zoos, but plague-infested lab monkeys. Soon herds of everything from giraffes, to elephants, to lions, tigers and bears (oh my!) are wandering the city streets.
